ALTOCEDRO
La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza
"Altocedro represents real artisanal winemaking, a boutique operation with some serious talent behind the wheel." -Wine Spectator
The winery and vineyards of Altocedro are located in the premier region of La Consulta, Valle de Uco, Mendoza.
Winemaker and owner Karim Mussi Saffie uses sustainable growing practices to produce limited amounts of terroir-driven wines.
The vines range up to 100 years of age. All harvesting, sorting, and crushing are done in individual batches by hand.
Fermentation occurs either in small cement tanks or in barrels, and the extract is done with a gravity flow system developed at the winery over 100 years ago.
Altocedro has become synonymous with outstanding La Consulta wine.
Altocedro Año Cero Malbec
91 points ('08), Wine & Spirits:
"From La Consulta, in the heights of the Uco Valley, this wine's red fruit has a nervous energy. The flavors are firm and fresh with a flavorful depth, all subtly complemented by lingering notes of black pepper."
Altocedro Año Cero Tempranillo
89 points ('08), Wine Spectator:
"Shows racy mulled spice, crushed red and black cherry fruit and sanguine notes that ripple through the dark, mineral-tinged finish. There's nice length and drive."
Altocedro Reserva Malbec
92 points ('07), Wine Spectator:
"Ripe and very well-focused, with a rock-solid core of blackberry, fig and
raspberry ganache flavors layered with alluring cocoa powder, incense and
mesquite notes. The long, racy finish has great underlying acidity, allowing
the rather fleshy structure of the wine to appear seamless."
